Dear Parents, Teachers, and
Students,
I just wanted to send a warm
welcome to everyone thinking about joining the Suzuki Tour Group of the
Carolinas. We are in the planning
stages of the next tour. The
emphasis of the tour is to give our teens an incentive to continue playing their
instruments and to have an incredible reward of a trip for doing so.
They have worked very hard to get to this point of advanced musicianship.
What a great opportunity they have to go to Nassau, the Bahamas and
Cococay on a cruise!
The other reason for the tour is
to reach out to other students around the world and share our music with them
and have them share their music with us. It
is like being a musical goodwill ambassador.
We all have a lot to learn from each other. When we are making music with others it builds peaceful
relations between people.
Some interesting findings we have
discovered on our trips.
1-
Positive and high expectations are very important.
If we expect the best in behavior, musicianship, and attitude, we are
rarely disappointed.
2-
Musicians get first priority, Parents second, and after that if we have
any openings, we will take grandparents, and others.
This is not a trip for young children.
It is too grueling. We have
way too much fun and sleep too little for younger students to cope and stay
happy and healthy.
3-
This is a package deal. Everyone
must be prepared to “go with the flow” of what the group is doing.
It is not an opportunity to plan your own side trips etc.
There will of course be times to choose your own activities, but they
must be within the planned framework of the tour.
4-
Adults are along for the ride. This trip is for the kids, and as their guests we need to
respect their needs and activities. The days are very full and tightly
scheduled. We travel at a very fast
pace and do not have much “down time” or private time.
Of course, we expect it to be noisy and lively because there are
teenagers involved. If this sounds
like the kind of tour for you, you are more than welcome.
5-
There is to be no whining or complaining (especially by parents).
Those activities are contagious and are very detrimental to the overall
health and happiness of the entire group. If
you have a legitimate gripe, and there is something feasible that can be done to
rectify the situation, please see Nan and Julia in private and we will see what
we can do.
6-
This trip will be the trip of a lifetime and will include such items as
fun, relaxation, enjoyment, merriment, and general happy memory making.
It will not include much sleep, wasted time, or opportunity to get bored.
In order to reserve your spot we
will need a $100 per person, nonrefundable deposit. The spaces will be filled on a first-come, first-served
basis. We have had lots of
interest, so send in your registration form quickly to save your space.
You can mail deposit and
registration form to SSA, PO Box 3589, Hickory, NC 28603, or Bring it to the
first rehearsal Saturday, September 29, from 10:00-12:30.
CALL 322-2694 if you have any questions.
